Okay, I've been waiting oh so impatiently for this light, lol. I was soooo excited when it arrived Saturday afternoon. I immediately wanted to play, of course, so I rigged this little, completely un classy set-up, for the time being.
Here it is in the box
I thought I should include a pic of Jack making my light box :) He worked so hard. If you are interested in making one, here is the How To that he followed.
Now here it is just quickly set up. I did cut a hole in the top tissue paper panel, because my pictures kept looking matte, and not shiny :)
Classy side view, lol
Now the first pics. So far I'm liking it. I wanted to try out a new polish I got called China Glaze Cosmic. It's a black jelly base, with tons of silver glitter, and some scattered holo glitter. This is a top coat eater, meaning, even after you do a coat of SV or 2, it will still feel lumpy, so I suggest that you first do a coat of a regular top coat, or Gelous, and then do SV, that helps tons :)
Lovely.

The light box makes your swatches even better.
ooh I'll have to look at getting myself a light box, the lighting in our house is rubbish. Thanks, useful post.
ReplyDeleteNice polish too btw.
That's a cool set up!!! Love it!!
ReplyDeleteWow, that link for making that lightbox is really helpful! And that lamp looks good, too :).
ReplyDeleteNeat swatches!
Wow, that looks great!!
ReplyDeleteI want to buid myself a lightbox too :) Thanks for the link!
ReplyDeleteAnd that polish is beautiful :) I love black varnish with glitter in it...
Have a nice day!
Neat! I didn't realize that's how you make a light box. I thought it was something super complicated, like the light box my art major roomie in college had (that had a light inside and a glass top...for reviewing slides and negatives)
ReplyDeleteI have an Ott light that I use in the winter to get enough full spectrum light. Keeps me from crawling into bed with a pack of wine coolers and a pot of mashed potatoes.
That is sooo cool! And the pictures look really good also! Wow! I'm really excited for you!
ReplyDeleteYAY! You figured out the lighting! Your setup looks great! That's what I was going to suggest that you do to get the shiny back on your nails :)
ReplyDeleteIf you find that you want the tissue paper on top back for the soft glow, then you can add an LED reading light to the front. Clamp it to the front of your lightbox and direct it just on the nails (that's how jewelry is photographed so it's all sparkly).
Really great job and a fabulous post!
that light box is really cool. i think the pictures turned out great!
ReplyDeleteThis is a bloody great idea! I need to do this, the lighting in our house is awful and it will allow me to do nail swatches whenever I like. Does it help with neon colours? I wonder if I could make anything to help with makeup swatching/FOTDs.
ReplyDeletethat is such a great idea! the lighting in my room is really bad, so some of my pictures don't come out the best.
ReplyDeletethanks for posting this!!
What a great polish! Ive never seen this.
ReplyDeleteYay for the new lamp and yay for the polish!
ReplyDeleteI Love love love loveeeeeeee lightboxes. Mine saves my life & i dont even have an OTT light (they're expensive & i'm waiting to have a coupon to use lol!)
ReplyDeleteand now I want this polish fyi..so pretty!
Wow, that´s amazing! I always loved your pics and this time they got even better. COngrats for such a dedication!
ReplyDeleteI heard somewhere that they sell OTT lightbulbs you just put into a regular lamp. I'm not sure if they work as well as a regular OTT light, but I'm going to look into it. Thanks for the link on how to make a lightbox!
ReplyDeleteJust when I thought your swatches couldn't get any nicer, you go and add this lamp, and POW!! This is so amazingly awesome and now I want your set-up.
ReplyDeleteNice set up! I once did a softbox like this but it got all mangled after being used on and off a couple of times. My advice is don't move it around much because the frame is weakened by the holes cut out in them. The photos came out a lot better than the ones before as they no longer has a yellow cast on them. :) Yay!! Erika, you may want to experiment and put a couple more lights - one on each side of the box. But yeah the pics look awesome right about now!
ReplyDeleteYour swatches look even better now! I love Cosmic, I have it too. Think I'll wear it soon. :-)
ReplyDeleteWow! I can really see the sparkles in the polish now. I didn't know a light box made such a difference. : O
ReplyDeletemmmm I love this polish!! I like your classy lightbox :)
ReplyDeleteThat color is fantastic! Also I love the idea of a light box...not sure why that never occured to me! I use to have a food blog and had the hardest time getting accurate picture and I have recently started a nail blog and was running into the same problem. I will have to try that. Thanks for the idea.
