China Glaze Hunger Games and a MASSIVE FAIL!!

I must confess, I am such a NERD when it comes to the Hunger Games, and so is Jack. We are going, along with my mom, to the midnight showing when it comes out, and I can't wait! I've always refused to go to one of those showings, but for this, I will, and even take the next day off. When I heard China Glaze was doing a collection for it, I HAD to buy them, but sadly, I decided not to get them all. Yeah, they are pretty, but IMO nothing hugely unique or must haves. So China Glaze, had this not been a Hunger Games collection, I wouldn't have purchased any :( Although I will say, that having almost 1500 polishes, makes it hard to find really unique ones now.

Anyways, here are the 8 that I purchased :) I also did a coat of Luxe & Lush from the collection over them all except one, because I simply forgot :( Sorry. Luxe & Lush is representing District 1.

District 3 - Riveting

District 11 - Agro

District 6 - Fast Track

District 9 - Harvest Moon

District 12 - Smoke & Ashes. This is my least favorite of them all. I just feel like I've seen it done sooo many times. Sure there is some blue and green shimmer in it, but it cannot be seen from afar. Come on, it's Katniss & Peeta's home district, I expected something with so much more wow than this. How about a dark charcoal color with bright red/orange visible shimmer? (can you tell I'm a tad disappointed , lol)

District 2 - Stone Cold. Now, this one I actually may have purchased without it being a Hunger Games polish, simply because it's a matte, and you all know, I just can't resist them. So I also tried it with a topcoat and Luxe & Lush as well.

District 5 - Electrify. This is the one that I forgot to add Luxe & Lush, and I apologize. I am though, happily blaming Jack for distracting me :)

and now, for my HUGE FAIL. See, I also blame Jack for this :) While I was happily swatching these polishes for you, he decided to text me mid polish wipe!!! IKR, how dare him. Anyways since it was so unexpected, I jumped, and elbowed Harvest Moon right off the arm of the couch, and she went on by herself to make some type of modern art on the carpet!!!!!!!!!!!! I have never in my life made such a mess. Thank goodness Jack wasn't mad even though I had just majorly ruined our carpet. At least it is in the corner, and under our end table. (wonders if I can contact China Glaze and have them replace our carpet, since I also semi blame them, lol)

  2. OMG! Maybe you can get some out? Call a carpet company-maybe they know tricks to get that out? My fave of this collection is mahogany magic-but I'm with you-I loved the books and had hoped for better colors!

  3. I somehow knocked a bottle of BLACK creme polish off a shelf and it broke all over my BEIGE bedroom carpet. If we ever build our own house, I'm having a Nail Room with wall to wall rubber mats.

  4. Oh now! Poor Harvest Moon and poor carpet! Will you be able to get some of that out?! I'm totally obsessed with HG as well! Can't wait for the film and for the polishes I ordered from this collection! Amazing swatches :)

  5. Hey, at least it's an interesting shape it left!! :D

  6. Ah nooo, that sucks =/ De colors are amazing though!

  7. Now I've got to get Electrify! Its looks so cool! As for your carpet, do you get on Pinterest? (That is how I came across your blog and now have a board just for Chloe's Nails.) You might find tips for getting nail polish out of carpet on there. Also, eHow might have some instructions, that is a good site, too. Good luck and thank you for the pics!

  8. Great swatches!
I have some kind of art like yours on my wood floor.

  9. I had something similar happen to me Erika. I forgot to screw the lid on a bottle of yellow polish and when i picked it up, it dropped off my desk onto my carpet spewing everywhere. I got down on my hands and knees and blotted as much as I could with a white towel then blotted with acetone and a white towel (do NOT rub) and most of it came up. It takes a lot of elbow grease!

  10. I feel so stupid for not knowing that those shades were named after the districts. Duh!!! Thanks for clearing that up! :-)
I adore Harvest Moon and Electrify. Rather on the nails than on the floor. Although your carpet now has a Kandinsky-esque feel. Lol.

  11. Chloe, you don't understand, it's modern art!!! ;P

    ReplyDelete
  12. Cold Stone and Fast Track is on my wishlist the rest isnt.
I had some "modern nail art" when I dropped a bottle (that "exploded") on my sneakers. Now I have "holo" sneakers LOL.

  13. Sometimes you can take a razor blade and slice off the polish from the carpet it if has already dried. Pretty colors though!!

    1. Haha, I had to do that when I accidentally stepped on my flat iron (conveniently located next to my bed on the floor) and turned it on, burning a lovely V into my apartment rug. It worked pretty well but you have to blend around where you cut carefully so there isn't just a shallow chunk in the rug!

      Delete
    2. I recommend a razor blade, depending on how far the polish dripped or soaked down into the carpet fibers (I'm assuming it's that carpet that's made of yarn-type threads). At least in the areas where the polish spattered more than pooled, only the tips of the fibers might be stained, and if you can't slice the polish off the carpet, you can trim the stained tips off. Trimmed spots would still look a little different (similar to dents in carpet where heavy furniture has stood for a long time or vacuum lines), but it would hardly be noticeable.

  14. LOL!!! I am eying riveting, harvest moon, and electrify....I am a Hunger Games nerd too... I so so so so hope that they translate it over to the big screen well and don't just muck it up and take out all the intense bits to make it more "happy" for the big screen.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Oh no! Harvest Moon on your carpet!
God. I am such a sucker for the Hunger Games too. I want a Peeta.
We got almost the same colors! Wearing Smoke & Ashes right now and trying to really love it, but it's tough for exactly the reasons you mention above.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I totally agree with you about the Smoke & Ashes, if they added red and orange shimmer it would look like burning coal. I just finished the hunger games and loved the books although they were kind of short. Sorry about your carpet but it does look kind of cool. Can't wait to try out this collection myself.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I did that to my floor too! I tried getting it off with acetone but it just left a shiny spot on where I rubbed it...woops -=X lols

    ReplyDelete
  18. Poor carpet! That's why I stick to area rugs. It may not be fun to replace them, but still easier than wall to wall carpeting (and I am a walking disaster, so there are lots of spills going down)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Before this post I had zero interest in this line from China Glaze. I am now interested in 2 or 3 of the shades. Thank you for the awesome swatches! So sorry to see what happened to your carpet!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I once let my bf's sister use one of my polishes which she left open on our dining table and my son spilled it on our wood floors which thankfully we cleaned up without a trace left. The only sucky part was that he was dressed up for a party and ruined his brand new shirt.

But my kid did color in our carpet with permanent marker just the other day, not sure how to get rid of that.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Aww~ At least it is a pretty color! I am sure that a carpet-cleaning company can fix this for you. I have moved my operations to a stone kitchen counter, with newspaper underneath that I can use to wipe my clean-up brush. It has a nice halogen light under the counter and a plug for the hairdryer I use to dry each coat. The only bad part is that I have to stand, but it ends up being easier on my neck than sitting and bending my head down. Since I work during all conceivable daylight hours it gives me the best shadow-free light as well. I highly welcome an accident-friendly workspace!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh man! I have done that on tile before. Somewhere I read that Windex will get polish out of carpet? It might be worth a try!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. YES!! This is true, I used to rent and a spilled hot pink polish all over the carpet! After trying acetone (which just smudged it all over the place) professional carpet cleaner (which faded it a tad, but not much) Windex or any window cleaner was the only thing that got it out of the carpet! Takes some elbow grease but the results are worth it!

      Delete
  23. ive spilled nail polish on my carpet before. WINDEX WORKS!!! it might take a little elbow grease but i know windex will help it come out a bit

    ReplyDelete
  24. Gorgeous swatches but that sucks about your carpet!! I've only ever spilled a polish once and luckily it was on the kitchen counter, but I was still sad/mad about wasting polish. Hopefully you'll find a solution to get it out.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Oh Geez! I've done that before except the bottle was closed but bounced off a lamp and broke open :/
What a mess. Nail Polish remover got a lot of it out though.

Luxe & Lush looks amazing, I've got to pick that one up.

I have to say I didn't know 1500 different polishes existed! You are my hero :D (going to pull a wayne & garth & say I'm not worthy! I'm not worthy! lol)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I have my carpet semi-painted yellow, got worse from trying to rub it off... It happens. I'm gonna start and blame my husband too! :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. WINDEX FOR THE CARPET!!!!!
It has always worked for me, windex+elbow grease!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Why not do the rest of the carpet with some matching polishes and call it accidental design?:-)

    ReplyDelete
  29. This is one of my biggest fears when polishing my nails! I'm always worried that I'll knock over a bottle, I'm only lucky that we have tile throughout the house so easy clean up.

I hope you can get it out of your carpet!

    ReplyDelete
  30. China Glaze is 2 for $10 right now so I think I'm going to pick up Smoke & Ashes. I just don't have enough blacks or charcoals. I know you are still catching up on your emails but I sent you one long ago while you were on hiatus and just in case you haven't read it yet I wanted to tell you how much you inspire me. My lowly blog is polishedpoison.blogspot.com let me know what you think. I am still trying to figure out the watermark thing and your help would be greatly appreciated I have already seen some of my pics hijacked, LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Your swatches are beautiful! And about the carpet, sometimes it is unexplainable the way things fly into the air once you have knocked them over. It doesn't look that bad ;)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Sorry about the rug, I’d try acetone and also non-acetoe removers first, but sparingly, once you’ve removed most, the rest of the remaining color may be able to be removed with ammonia (the probably reason for windex success) or maybe alcohol, you can try hairspray too. (Alcohol and Hairspray are what work for ink stains for the person who had that issue above!) Good Luck.

    ReplyDelete
  33. oh noooo! last year i dropped a box of nail polish and 3 of my darkest colors broke all over my light carpet (in an apartment i was renting, 2 days before i moved out haha). and then 2 nights ago i dropped a soft bag of nail polish and and 4 of them broke inside the bag, one of which being revlon scandalous :( glitter EVERYWHERE. i feel your pain! good luck!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Aww >< I heard Windex can get nail polish off carpets so maybe you can try that

    ReplyDelete
  35. I completely agree with you 100% about Smoke and Ashes, I mean IT'S THEIR DISTRICT! They would have something completely WOW! lol, I love the colors you chose :) Those are all the ones I want as well... I was hoping this collection would be a little more amazing because I absolutely LOVE the Hunger Games... but... oh well :P

    Lovely swatches as always :)

    1. Kelly and I are on the same page! Obviously China Glaze was HUGELY remiss in not consulting us. :) Their big to do was FIRE! Seems like they missed a super easy slam dunk in their color choice!
Stone Cold is great! The others? not so much :p

Have fun at the movies goils!

  36. Hahha - I'm sorry. I always jump too when I get a text. But I have wood floors. Easy to whipe. Done it a few times. lol

    ReplyDelete
  37. I love Luxe and Lush. It looks so different than other polishes I own. Sorry about your rug! Maybe you could try looking around online. There must be a way to get it out. For
Whenever I get polish on fabric I use hairspray and a wet washcloth to get it out. Maybe that would work. I seem to spill polish everywhere but luckily I haven't gotten it on rugs before. Hardwood floors are another story.

  38. http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Product/Details/?id=250707542

See if you can get that! It got bright blue polish out of a cream carpet with no staining on a 4 day old stain!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I had a smaller spill on my carpet with polish but I used acetone nail polish remover & got most of it out lol =)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Shaving cream gets nail polish out of carpets. I don't know how it works but it really does!

    ReplyDelete
  41. they are kinda meh colors but you make them look beautiful, such a shame about the carpet, love the modern art though lol.

    ReplyDelete
  42. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8D4TeZACMw

I'd try this tip first...your carpet is a light color, so I think it would be alright to try hydrogen peroxide.

  43. I love love district 5!! SOooo pretty!

    ReplyDelete
  44. i spilled a bottle of china glaze today to,this kind of makes me feel better lol

    ReplyDelete
  45. it's the least they could do considering the number of CG polishes you have purchased! think of all that free advertising you've done for them! lol

    ReplyDelete
  46. I completely agree with you about this collection. I ordered some earlier this week. We'll see how they live up!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Should you have this happen again where you spill polish on your carpet, if you pour rubbing alcohol on the spot while it is still wet and then dab and rub it it seems to come out of the carpet although it does take some time. I have unfortnately have got to try this method twice and both times the polish came out

    ReplyDelete
  48. I haven't seen you mention this product in the past, but perhaps I missed it. I've been a huge fan of Revlon's ColorStay top coat for years and it had been discontinued for a long time. You used to have to buy it in a two pack with a color polish and the top coat. This week in CVS I see the line is back this time with the top coat sold separately from the polish!!! Happy Dance! I promise you, this top coat will hold a manicure at least twice as long as the next best top coat. Just wanted to pass along to your MANY followers. Love your ideas and keep those posts coming!

  49. Electrify and Luxe and Lush are so pretty! And I'm still totally in awe of your nail painting abilities - I don't know how you get them so neat.
Mentioned you in a blog post today! Could people check it out - it's relatively new but gaining views and followers fast, you'll see how much potential it has! And there's really something for everyone.

  51. Ooo, a hunger games line of polish?! Count me in! Though, I think I have similar colors to many of the ones you showed in the swatches - boo. Can't wait to see the movie. Love your blog and all your fun nail designs. Did you try to google getting nail polish out of carpet? I thought I had seen a tip on pinterest about an easy way to get it out without damage to the carpet. Course can't remember what it was off the top of my head.

  53. I am so sorry to see that mess. I've lost a pair of pants to the same thing, and had to put them down lol. It was horrible. I came across this product:

    http://www.amazon.com/The-LadyBug-Nail-Polish-Holder/dp/B004EF6ACO

when I was reading I'm Feeling Nail-Venturous' blog:

    http://imfeelingnail-venturous.blogspot.com/

I thought it might be something you'd be interested in, and I'm definitely going to purchase this. I can't bare to lose another pair of pants or Heaven forbid, another clothing item, to another one of these accidents lol.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Wow, I love Fast Track. Can't wait to get my hands on some of these polishes!

And I would see the mess as a work of art ;)

    ReplyDelete
  55. I did the same thing with BLACK polish. An old towel and WINDEX will take it right out! You should try it.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Yes, I've heard that Windex works to get it out. This happened to me once and I read online that hairspray also work. Bright Pink polish is out of my tan carpet!

    ReplyDelete
  57. I agree that if the colors weren't Hunger Games I wouldn't get any of them! I was disappointed in the names and colors, I was hoping for so much more for Hunger Games!

    ReplyDelete
  58. I spilled BLACK polish on my carpet once....same spill pattern as yours. I about died! But I got it all up. I poured acetone nail polish remover on it and sprayed HAIRSPRAY right on the stain. LOTS of scrubbing and it did all come out...which is a good thing because I don't think my husband would have been very understanding about it! I was afraid I'd need to rearrange the furniture!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Time to. Real out the windex. ;0). LoL

    ReplyDelete
  60. Huge Hunger Games fan too! Taking my whole family to the midnight showing in MA, and like you, I swore I would never do that kind of thing! Just starting Mockingjay with my boys, 11, tonight, but my daughter, 12, finished the whole series and is obsessed with all things THG. Can't wait til we can get the polishes!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I just love these polishes so much! I can't wait to get them, especially Riveting, Agro & Stone Cold.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I'm obsessed with The Hunger Games! Your swatches are so pretty!

That's awful about your carpet. Maybe you could put a small area rug over it.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I picked up Stone Cold and Harvest Moon and they're beautiful! I'm going to get Electrify as soon as it's back in stock too. I'm in love! I may even pick up another Harvest Moon while they're still on sale. Even though I was first drawn to Stone Cold, Harvest Moon has stolen my heart. It's a beautiful copper.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Omg i am such a huge Hunger Games fan! I picked up Stone Cold, Smoke and Ashes, Riveting, Fast Track, Harvest Moon and Agro but your swatches made me want to get Luxe and Lush and Electrify as well!

    ReplyDelete
  65. lolz looks like my hardwood floors after a mishap with a China Glaze green holiday polish. Damn that China Glaze. I think it is their fault!

    ReplyDelete
  66. I have China Glaze Riveting and I love it even though it was a very unusual different color that I would choose. I've also spilled tons of polish and ruined blankets. Clumsy me.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I used Goo Gone to get bright red out of light tan carpet. You can barely see the polish now!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Chloe! I love your blog! Such inspiring work! I just bought Luxe & Lush, love it! I am also trying to find Stone Cold. The matte finish is phenomenal! :) Also, your "Katniss" nails were beautiful!
